Stories of Hope: Episode 21 - Mnqobi Hadebe, Mandisa Maphumulo, Nelson Maphumulo, Noxolo Mpontshane and Mbongeleni Mthiyane
Nelson Scelo Maphumulo shares his journey of perseverance, hard work, and continuous learning. Growing up with financial challenges, he was forced to enter the workforce at a young age to support his family. Through the Business Administration NQF 3 Learnership, sponsored by Megaflow and facilitated by Edge Training, Nelson gained valuable skills in teamwork, business operations, and time management, helping him work towards his dream of one day running his own motor servicing business. (00:23) Hi everyone, my name is Nelson Scelo Maphumulo. I was born in eSikhawini in the early 80s. I was raised in KwaHlabisa, in Kwa-Zulu Natal. I’m a father of five. I was raised by my grandmother.
(00:43) During my early childhood, there were so many challenges in life. First, I didn’t have enough money to further my studies. So I have to go and look for work in order for me to provide for my family. In life, there are challenges that you want to give up in life. So, I keep on pushing because the parents, or my grandparents, always tell me to push. Well, I have tried to keep on studying the small training. I have to train myself in how to be a better person in life.
(01:40) Well, here at Megaflow, I’m an Electrical Motor Fitter, whereby we fit a motor in order for the motor to send it to the customer in good condition. We grease bearings, we wind motors, we balance rotors, and also the pump section here at Megaflow, whereby the customer brings their pumps. Any customer can bring their pump to Megaflow. Any customer can bring their motors to Megaflow.
(02:25) We are very grateful to Megaflow for introducing us to the Business Admin Learnership. So, the Edge Training gives us more information on how to operate as a team in the workshop, and where to avoid any conflicts in the workshop. They give us more information about the business itself and how to manage the business, and then how to manage times, in order for the production to flow.
(03:07) Well, in future, I wanna see myself running the same business that I’m within, the business of servicing motors.
