The Design Thinking Innovation Lead Occupational Qualification prepares staff to run the innovation process for other people, not just take part in it. Learners lead applied ethnographic research to understand a problem in its real context, guide group interaction toward workable solutions, and coach teams through the design thinking process from problem framing to implementation.
The distinction from practitioner-level training is deliberate and visible in the credit weighting: leading group interaction, coaching workshops and innovation leadership together account for the bulk of the qualification. After facilitator led training has taken place via the course material, group work and scenario driven exchanges, learners will have the opportunity to relate the information back to their workplace. That repetition is intentional: design thinking that skips the immersion step produces solutions to the wrong problem, and this qualification does not allow that shortcut.
Fifty-two credits of supervised workplace practice. Design thinking innovation coaching and creative innovation solution design carry 24 credits each in the workplace component. Learners have already coached a real team through a real problem before they do it unsupervised, which matters more here than in almost any other qualification, because facilitation cannot be learned from a manual.
