Understanding the Cloud Administrator Qualification

Cloud Administrator Overview

The Cloud Administrator Occupational Qualification prepares staff to implement cost-effective cloud systems, transition locally hosted infrastructure to the cloud, and then keep it working. Learners monitor, maintain and troubleshoot cloud platforms and computing resources, and maintain the security protocols that protect a cloud environment against unauthorised access and other risks.

The content is current rather than generic: containers, cloud-native architecture and Kubernetes sit alongside cloud platform fundamentals, storage availability and cloud database work. At NQF Level 4 and 149 credits over twelve months, it is an accessible entry into cloud operations for staff who are already technically inclined.

How to make the most of a Cloud Administrator QCTO Qualification

Why choose this Qualification?

Network administration is the single largest practical module. Provide Cloud Network Administration and Support for Optimal Performance carries 16 of the 55 practical credits, more than double any other practical module. That weighting is right, because in a live cloud environment the majority of user-facing problems are connectivity and performance problems, not provisioning problems.

Security runs through all three components. Cloud security, risks and mitigation appears as a knowledge module, ensuring the integrity of the cloud ecosystem appears as an 8-credit practical module, and network availability and reliability according to security protocols carries 20 workplace credits. An administrator with access to your cloud environment is a security exposure unless trained otherwise, and this qualification treats it that way.

Fifty-six credits of workplace experience on live services. Work experience covers on-demand availability of server resources, of data storage and storage services, and network reliability, the first and last at 20 credits each. Combined with the container and Kubernetes content, this produces someone who can hold an operational cloud environment together rather than someone who has read about one.
