Where Do We Come From

Edge Training was founded in 2000 from a vision birthed by Dave Blakemore and Dean Mathieson while they were employed as Senior Trainers at one of South Africas leading financial institutions. From the very beginning a choice was made to specialize in Human Development Training. As a result of this focused approach Edge Training now sets the standard in Interpersonal, Leadership, Management Development and Entrepreneurial Skills training.

In 2002 Edge Training began an exciting partnership with the Durban Institute of Technology to conduct a ground breaking entrepreneurial program. From a small class of 15 entrepreneurs that enrolled at DIT in 2002, the certificate in New Venture Creation had grown to 221 entrepreneurs completing this program in 2004. This program has enabled Edge Training to play a vital role in the creation of much needed sustainable small businesses in South Africa.

The success of the Certificate in New Venture Creation has also lead to a strengthening of our relationship with Durban Institute of Technology who now regard Edge as one of their preferred delivery agents of the New Venture Creation Learnerships.

The lessons and successes learned have enabled Edge Training to embark on a new venture offering Leadership Development Training (LDP) to Schools. This fresh initiative pioneered by a separate specialised Youth Development team has embraced the Edge Training philosophy of knowing and leading yourself before you can lead others.

Then in 2003 Dave Blakemore and Dean Mathieson released their first book which outlines their philosophy and belief regarding the acquiring and retention new information and skills. To date over 22000 copies have been sold

As Edge Training grew in the Kwa-Zulu Natal market, the need for a national footprint became more and more pressing, ultimately resulting in the unique Franchise Branch concept. 2006 saw the first local branch opened in Cape Town and a steady stream of new branches in South Africa and Africa continue to add to the Edge "footprint".
