The Brent Wilson Fund
Brent, Megan and Kyle Wilson

It is with much sadness that Edge Training must advise that much-loved Durban North teacher Brent Wilson (35), who had been fighting Lymphoma for the past ten years, passed away on the 17th January 2010.

Brent, who taught at Northlands Primary School since 2002, was diagnosed with the illness two weeks after his wedding to his wife Megan in 1999. Lymphoma invades the lymphatic system, allowing cancer to spread to all parts of the body. Initially the nodes were concentrated in one area and after aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatment Brent was pronounced clear in 2000. He remained clear for five years and the couple began to relax, as they were told that after a five-year remission, chances of the disease recurring would be very slim. Six months later the cancer returned. After a great deal of intensive treatment doctors have said they cannot radiate the same places, making chemotherapy the only option, but it did not having the desired effect.

Marilize De Bruin, Marketing Manager at Northlands Primary School, initiated a fund to help the family with their medical expenses. This fund will remain open to assist the family with their expenses going forward.
